Hi, I'm Deanna, and I'm The Snobelier.
That's not entirely accurate. I will be the Snobelier...someday. That's the dream anyways. For now, I'm a 26 year old who needs to make a change because I can't spend the next 50 years doing what I'm doing now.
What am I doing now? Well, it's very boring, but luckily easily summarized. I currently do HOA sales and marketing for a company that does flood and mold cleanup (and other stuff). The company is owned by my lovely parents who would like nothing more than to hand over the reigns of the company to me in a few years, so they can effectively retire. That's assuming we don't all murder each other before they retire. In which case, the next 50 years would be spent in prison. Since I look horrible in orange, the career change is necessary.
My future career needs to involve wine and, in a perfect world, travel. I'm single. I have exactly zero children. I have no mortgage. If I want to travel the world, now is the time to do it. I've considered being a wine buyer and broker. I've debated wine sales. Top of the list would be wine writing, although I don't think my style would ever get published by a magazine...unless they like swearing, parenthesis, and excessive ellipses. Notably missing from that list is sommelier because, I don't want to work in restaurants. I am taking the intro level sommelier course offered by the Court of Master Sommeliers, and I intend to take the certified test before I turn 28 (disclaimer: I turn 27 in 3 months, so it's not that far off).
Right now I'm trying to cram a ton of theory into my head before December 15th when the class starts. It's like trying to learn another language. A lot of the terminology is actually actually in other languages, so that's not a great example. I'll try to think of a better comparison.
If you've read this far, you deserve a gold star. And a glass of wine. I'm almost done, I promise.
Here's what you can expect to find on The Snobelier:
Reviews of wines under $10. Why wines under $10? Because that's what I drink. It's what's in the budget. And in all honesty, it's the upper limit of my day to day wine budget. Most of my wine is sourced from Trader Joe's so it's not a huge challenge to stay under $10. Also, I'm not living in a cardboard bridge under a box because I spent too much money on wine.
Expect to find wines with descriptions not necessarily found on the tag, label, or any serious wine site. I think wine should be fun! And entertaining if at all possible. If you need the perfect bottle to drink while watching Bridesmaids, this is your place. If you're wondering, that perfect bottle is Cupcake Red Velvet. That being said...
Snobby Sunday. Sometimes you need a bottle of the good stuff. Snobby Sundays are the wine's you'll want to buy to impress your boss when you're trying to earn a raise.
White Wine Wednesday: I think this one is pretty self explanatory. You might question it's relevance during the summer though when it's rosé and white all the time.
Foodie Friday: I went to culinary school. Now, I'm basically going to wine school. For awhile, I had a food blog. Now I have a wine blog. I still like to to talk about food incessantly, so Fridays are all about wine and food.
Hopefully, you'll stick around and we can learn about wine together. Speaking of learning, I have to get back to studying.
